School Psychology Awareness Week |
 |
The AISD is celebrating School Psychology Awareness Week Nov. 9-13. School psychologists help students succeed emotionally, socially and academically. They collaborate with educators, parents and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments for all students that strengthen connections between home and school. School psychologists work to find the best solution for each student and situation; they use different strategies to address student needs and to improve school and district-wide support systems. |

In the Spirit |

West Elementary hosted its first Trunk or Treat for parents, students and community members on Friday, Oct. 30. Staff members dressed in costume and decorated their trunks; kindergarten teachers dressed as M&Ms. Candy and Halloween good wishes were passed out to students and their parents, most of whom came in costume. At one point in the evening primary students performed “Monster Mash” and intermediate students danced to “Thriller.” Both dances had been learned during music and PE times. |

Supporting a Cause |

Morton Elementary celebrated pink day on Oct. 27. All faculty, students and parents were encouraged to wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness and to help find a cure. |

Run for It |

Outside of her work in the teacher material services area of the warehouse, Pok Su Binger enjoys running. Binger participates annually in the Cowtown Marathon, completing the half marathon in 2009. |

Bowling for Charity |
 |
Hill Elementary had 21 faculty members participate in Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2009 at Forum Bowl in Grand Prairie. They had four teams and raised $2,727 for Big Brothers Big Sisters. This was the first year Hill has participated in this annual fund-raiser. It was a fun afternoon that benefited many children in the area. |

Regional Recognition |

Coach Wendy Teer was named the Regional Coach of the Year for her work with the men’s gymnastics team this year. This recognition, given by the Region IV Men’s Coaches Association, is a big honor and shows her dedication to the gymnastics program in general and to the men’s program specifically. |
