Feeding the Future

The mission of the AISD Food & Nutrition Services is to support the educational process and improve the health and well-being of every student by providing nutritious, wholesome, high quality meals in a friendly, courteous manner.

We serve approximately 9.5 million reimbursable meals per year (14,000 breakfasts and 40,000 lunches per day).  Each of the district’s 73 campuses has a cafeteria to serve its students with more than 500 people employed to operate the breakfast and lunch programs in our schools. Food & Nutrition Services is a self-sufficient operation with a $25 million dollar budget that does not use local tax dollars in which to operate. All funds generated for the department are from cafeteria sales, federal and state funds. Fifty-six (56%) percent of our students qualify for free or reduced priced meals in our district.

All meals served meet strict USDA standards based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Texas Department of Agriculture Nutrition Policy. Our weekly menus provide:

• No more than 30% of calories from total fat
• No more than 10% of calories from saturated fat
• 1/4 of the RDA for protein, vitamins A, C, iron, calcium and calories for breakfast
• 1/3 of the RDA for protein, vitamins A, C, iron, calcium and calories for lunch
• Individual food items that contain 23 grams of fat or less with the exception of only one item per week not to exceed 28 grams of fat
• No foods fried on site as a preparation method

We offer three entrée choices at the elementary schools, five entrée choices for junior high and six entrée choices at high schools daily (at least one choice per day is a non-meat entrée). The AISD Food & Nutrition Services Department appreciates the opportunity to serve your children.
