Sam Houston Parents and Guardians,
Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Sam Houston High School will begin implementing our “Away for the Day” cell phone and electronic device policy.
This state-mandated policy is designed to ensure that students remain focused on learning throughout the school day without distractions from personal devices.
Key Information for Parents
If a student has their phone or electronic device out during class or passing periods, cafeteria, or during the day, staff will collect the device.
The incident will be documented in our SHHS Phone Collection 2025–2026 system, and parents/guardians will receive an automatic email notification when their student’s ID is entered.
Devices will be secured and delivered to the appropriate Assistant Principal’s office.
Consequences will be assigned in accordance with District Policy.
If a student refuses to surrender their device, the incident will be documented, and further disciplinary action will follow.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation with your student at home. By working together, we can provide a safe and focused environment where students can succeed academically and socially.
Thank you for your continued support of Sam Houston High School. Please contact your student’s Assistant Principal if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Juan Villarreal
