Feeding the Future
The mission of the AISD Food & Nutrition Services is to support the educational process and improve the health and well-being of every student by providing nutritious, wholesome, high quality meals in a friendly, courteous manner.
We serve approximately 9.7 million reimbursable meals per year (14,800 breakfasts and 41,000 lunches per day) at seventy-three (73) school campuses. In addition, we serve approximately 103,000 after school snacks and 174,000 summer meals at select campuses. The Food & Nutrition Services Department has over 500 people employed to operate the breakfast and lunch programs in our schools. The department has two warehouses that distribute food to all sites weekly.
Food & Nutrition Services is a self-sufficient operation with a $28 million dollar annual budget that does not use local tax dollars in which to operate. All funds generated for the department are from cafeteria sales, federal and state funds. Sixty-two (62%) percent of our students qualify for free or reduced priced meals in our district.
All meals served meet or exceed the strict USDA guidelines based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Texas Department of Agriculture Nutrition Policy to provide healthy choices for our students!
The AISD Food & Nutrition Services Department appreciates the opportunity to serve your children.
